Gambling cost calculator
Enter what you lose in a typical week or month, meaning money in minus money out, not the total you stake. The calculator does the rest. Everything runs on your device: nothing you type is sent or saved.
What to do with the number
A number like this can feel like a punch. That's normal, and it isn't a verdict on you. Most people who decide to stop start right here, by seeing the total.
Four practical next steps:
- Block the apps and sites so the next urge has nothing to land on. Recovo blocks 430+ gambling sites in Safari automatically, and uses Screen Time to block gambling apps and every other browser.
- Watch the number go the other way. Recovo's Progress screen counts the money you keep, live, from the day you stop.
- Tell one person. An accountability partner who holds your unlock code turns a private struggle into a shared one.
- Find out where you stand. The 9-question self-check shows whether your gambling is in a risky range. If it's mostly sports betting, read how sports betting addiction is different.
If gambling has you in financial trouble or crisis right now, call 1-800-522-4700 in the US, or GamCare on 0808 8020 133 in the UK. Both are free, confidential and open 24/7.
How the numbers are worked out
A weekly figure is multiplied by 52, a monthly one by 12 and a daily one by 365 to get the yearly total. The 5-year and 10-year totals are that yearly total multiplied by 5 and 10. The share of your pay divides the yearly total by your yearly take-home pay.
It assumes your losses stay the same, and it leaves out interest on debt, overdraft fees and anything the money could have earned. If you've been borrowing to gamble, your real cost is higher than this.
Common questions
Should I count my wins?
Yes. Use your net loss: what you put in minus what you took out over the same period. Counting stakes alone overstates it, and counting only losing bets does too.
Where do I find my real gambling losses?
Your bank or card statement shows every deposit to a gambling site. Many betting apps also have a transaction or account history that lists deposits and withdrawals. Add up a typical month.
Is anything I enter saved?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to us or stored anywhere.
