A gambling site still loads. How do I block it?
Most of the time a site that still loads means one of three things: the Safari extension isn't switched on, you're in a browser other than Safari, or the site isn't on the list yet. Work through these in order.
1. Turn on the Safari extension
Recovo's always-on website blocker is a Safari extension, and iOS ships it switched off. Apple doesn't let an app turn it on for you.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps → Safari (on iOS 17 and earlier, just Safari).
- Tap Extensions and turn on Recovo.
- Close the gambling site's tab and open it again.
Recovo's Block Setup screen shows Active next to "Block gambling sites in Safari" once it's on.
2. Update Recovo
Keep Recovo updated in the App Store. Each update adds the sites people send in. Version 1.3.6 also makes the Safari blocker work on every iPhone with iOS 16 or later. Before that, it needed iOS 26.4.
3. Using Chrome, Firefox or another browser?
The Safari extension only covers Safari. For every other browser, and for gambling apps, start a timed block: on Home, tap Block Gambling Sites, choose a duration, then pick the apps and sites in Apple's Screen Time picker.
Apple's Screen Time can block about 50 websites. Past that, it quietly ignores new ones. Recovo warns you when your list goes over.
4. Send us the site
If the extension is on and the site still loads in Safari, it isn't on the list yet. In Recovo, go to Settings → Add a Website to Our Block List and enter the address. If Recovo already blocks it, you'll see that straight away. If not, we review the site and add it in an upcoming app update.
Common questions
Does Recovo block gambling in Chrome?
The always-on blocker works in Safari only. To block gambling in Chrome and other browsers, start a timed block, which uses Apple's Screen Time and covers the apps and up to about 50 sites you pick, in every browser.
Why can't Recovo turn the Safari extension on for me?
iOS requires you to switch on every Safari extension yourself in Settings. No app can do it on your behalf.
How long until a site I send in is blocked?
We review every submission. Sites go into the block list with the next app update, which installs from the App Store like any other update.
